MEMBERSHIP APPRECIATION DINNER
On a Tuesday August 20th at Guiseppe’s in Richboro, the Bucks County Chapter was rocking out some great fun! 60 people were treated to lots of pizza and non-alcoholic beverages while enjoying an engaging presentation by Joe Battista (class of 1983). Joe has been an integral part of the State College community since 1978. He best known for his efforts to bring varsity ice hockey to Happy Valley and in the building of the Pegula Ice Arena. “Joe Ba” is the owner of PRAGMATIC Passion, LLC consulting, a professional speaker, success coach and the author of a new book, “The Power of Pragmatic Passion”. Joe took us through a journey of the Penn State Hockey program from its beginnings as a Club Team to its current Varsity status and he introduced us to the concepts of Pragmatic Passion. There were a lot of door prizes and the making of many new friends. We had alumni who graduated in 1961 all the way through to recent grads, one of our 2019 scholarship awardees, and one young man was heading up to University Park to start his Freshman year attend. The owner, Tony Giaimo, of Guiseppe’s in Richboro is also a Penn State Alum—a Penn State banner greets as you enter the restaurant. We did another successful food drive for the Abington Campus Lion Share Food Pantry for food deficient Penn State students.
TRI-COUNTY FRESHMAN SEND-OFF
On Saturday, August 3rd, the Montgomery, Bucks, and Philadelphia Chapters came together to host the annual Freshman Send-Off event at the Abington Campus. Over 200 students, friends, family, volunteers, Board members, and alumni made the event a huge success. The Chapter Presidents gave the opening remarks and the day started with a pizza and salad lunch. The incoming freshmen attended a Q&A panel with current PSU students that addressed student life at Penn State. The parents attended a session hosted by the Penn State Parents’ Council and another session that focused on financial aid. For the Scavenger Hunt, the students were placed into six member teams based on their campus. They participated in action-packed, competitive stations (including Corn Hole, Kan Jam, & a Football Throw), a selfie with the Nittany Lion and team picture at the Lion Statue as they journeyed around the campus. Attendees were treated to desserts and raffle drawings as all three Chapters selected four students to win a Penn State bag packed with gifts any freshman would like to make student life easier. The winning Scavenger Hunt team received sports related gift Penn State bags. The students also brought non-perishable food for the Abington Campus Lion Share food bank, teaching them first-hand about Penn State giving back to their community.
TAKE ME OUT TO THE BALL GAME!
On June 25th, 34 members of the Bucks County Chapter enjoyed a night out at the Trenton Thunder baseball game. After a great all you can eat picnic buffet, our group settled into their reserve seats to share a night of fun together! Please join us next year for this annual event!
